Shining the Light of Advocacy, Training and Personalized Guidance for Survivors

By: Janice Tjeng

Edited by: Juliana Zhu, Esq.

Elisabeth is a survivor of family-controlled child sex trafficking and abuse, which began when she was 2. After years of familial sexual abuse, her father sold her to pimps to earn more money. She eventually left home at 18. The birth of her twins motivated her to seek help and she spent the last 6 years recovering from childhood trauma and earned her master’s degree in social work (MSW).

Currently, Elisabeth writes about her recovery from complex posttraumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) on her blog at BeatingTrauma.com. She uses her educational experience and personal experience as a trafficking survivor to raise awareness about sexual violence and C-PTSD. As an advocate, she focuses on the following:

1. She discusses about sex trafficking to children and teachers in school.

2. She trains recovery partners who work with survivors.

3. She engages in legislative advocacy and media interviews.

4. She develops online forums to empower survivors and guide them to recovery.
